Privacy Policy

Last updated: October 22, 2026

Who we are

This policy covers MR. ALPS (mralps.com), MR. WINDS (mrwinds.com), Home of Outdoors (homeofoutdoors.com) and the Outdoors app for iPhone and Android: one platform that ranks mountain and beach destinations, sea spots and marinas worldwide by live conditions. All four are run by Julien Moretton, sole proprietorship (Einzelunternehmen), Spitalgasse 5, 8001 Zurich, Switzerland, who is responsible for your personal data (the data controller). In this policy, "MR. ALPS", "we" and "us" mean all four. Some features are available without an account. Other features, including My Outdoors and Strava-based activity sync, require an account.

Data we collect

We collect and process information needed to provide MR. ALPS features, including:

  • Account information (such as email address and profile details)
  • Preferences and saved items (such as favorites and filters)
  • Manually logged activity data (if you add ski days or visits yourself)
  • Usage and device information from our analytics tools, described in the next section
  • Technical information needed to operate the site securely and reliably

If you choose to connect Strava, we also process Strava data as described below.

Analytics, cookies and advertising

MR. ALPS is a ranking engine, and we measure how people use it so we can make the rankings and the product better. This section describes what that involves.

What we measure

  • Pages viewed, time on page, and the route you took through the site
  • Interactions with the ranking, such as filters applied, sort order, searches, destinations opened, favorites and outbound clicks to booking or destination websites
  • Device and browser information, such as device type, screen size, browser, operating system and language
  • Approximate location derived from your IP address, used both to compute travel times to destinations and to understand where our visitors come from
  • How you arrived, including the referring site and campaign parameters such as utm_source, utm_medium, utm_campaign and advertising click identifiers
  • A pseudonymous identifier that lets us recognise a returning browser. If you are signed in, we also associate your account identifier, email address and name with your activity in our analytics tool

Session recordings

We use session replay, which records the pages you visit as a reconstructed playback of clicks, scrolling and navigation, so we can see where the product confuses people and fix it. Text you type into form fields is masked by our analytics provider and is not captured. We do not use session recordings to identify individuals.

Cookies and similar technologies

On the web we store identifiers in cookies and in your browser's local storage. These are used to recognise a returning browser, to remember your preferences and consent choice, and to measure the effect of our advertising. In the MR. ALPS iOS and Android apps, analytics identifiers are held in memory only and no tracking cookies are written.

Advertising

We advertise MR. ALPS, mainly through Google. To understand which advertising works, we measure whether a visit that came from an ad led to a meaningful action, such as opening a destination or clicking through to book. Advertising and remarketing tags are loaded through Google Tag Manager and only receive advertising consent if you accept cookies. Until you accept, Google's consent mode runs with advertising storage denied and advertising click identifiers redacted.

Your choices

When you first visit the site we show a banner with Accept all and Decline. Accept all turns on analytics and advertising measurement together. If you decline, we switch these off for you. If you have not made a choice yet, or if you close the banner without choosing, we treat that as undecided rather than as a refusal: we collect a limited set of anonymous usage events, without a personal profile and without advertising or session replay consent, and the banner appears again on your next visit.

You can change your mind at any time by clearing this site's cookies and local storage in your browser, which resets your choice and brings the banner back, or by writing to us at the address in the Contact section below and asking us to stop processing your analytics data. You can also use your browser's own cookie and tracking controls.

How we use this data

  • To operate the site and your account, and to keep both secure
  • To improve the ranking and the recommendations we show. Which destinations people open, filter for and click through to is the signal we use to judge whether a ranking is any good, and to make it better
  • To understand which features are used, which are not, and where the product is confusing
  • To measure the effect of our advertising

We may analyse this usage data, in aggregated or pseudonymised form, to develop and evaluate the ranking algorithm, including with research partners such as Swiss universities and research institutes. Where we do this, the partner is bound by a written agreement, the analysis is carried out on extracts that exclude account identifiers, email addresses and names, and the purpose is limited to improving the ranking.

We do not sell your personal data.

Strava integration

If you choose to connect your Strava account to MR. ALPS, we access Strava data only after you authorize the connection.

What we use Strava data for

  • Identify your personal ski days and mountain visits
  • Show your personal My Outdoors stats and history
  • Power your personal Season Pass Tracker (for example, days used in eligible ski areas)
  • Improve your personal experience inside MR. ALPS

What we do not do with Strava data

  • We do not post activities to Strava on your behalf
  • We do not sell Strava data
  • We do not use Strava data for targeted advertising
  • We do not use Strava data for AI or machine learning training
  • We do not show your Strava data to other MR. ALPS users without your explicit consent

Strava data from your account is used only for your own experience in MR. ALPS, unless you explicitly choose to share something.

Strava data we may process

Depending on the permissions you grant, MR. ALPS may process:

  • Activity metadata (for example activity type, time, distance, elevation, timestamps)
  • Location-related activity information needed to identify mountain ski days and village visits
  • Basic athlete/account identifiers needed to maintain your connection
  • Strava tokens needed to maintain your authorized connection (stored securely)

We request only the minimum access needed for the features we provide.

How Strava data is displayed

Strava-connected features are shown in your personal My Outdoors area. MR. ALPS is not an official Strava app, and Strava does not sponsor or endorse MR. ALPS.

Where relevant, links back to Strava are provided using the label "View on Strava".

Privacy choices and controls

You can:

  • Accept or decline analytics and advertising cookies from the banner shown on your first visit
  • Disconnect Strava at any time from your My Outdoors settings / Strava management area
  • Request deletion of your Strava-linked data from MR. ALPS
  • Contact us for privacy questions or support

If you disconnect Strava, we stop future syncs and remove or disable the connection tokens. We also begin cleanup of Strava-linked data in MR. ALPS according to our deletion process.

Data retention and deletion (Strava-specific)

We keep Strava data only as long as needed to provide the features you enabled.

Retention rules for Strava-connected data:

  • Cached Strava API data is not kept longer than 7 days
  • If a connected user revokes Strava access, we stop sync and delete Strava-linked personal data from MR. ALPS as part of the disconnect/deletion workflow
  • If a Strava activity is deleted on Strava, we remove it from MR. ALPS as soon as practical and no later than 48 hours after it is detected in sync

You may also request deletion of your Strava-linked data directly through our support process.

MR. ALPS in ChatGPT, Claude and other AI assistants

When you use MR. ALPS, MR. WINDS or Home of Outdoors inside an AI assistant, the assistant sends us only what each question needs: the activity, place names, your starting town, dates, number of adults and price limit. We also receive the assistant's name, the country the request comes from, and technical data such as the time and response time. We do not receive your conversation, name, email or account, and we do not store your IP address.

We use this to answer, keep the service running, improve the answers and count usage. It passes through Cloudflare (hosting) and Supabase (our database). It is recorded in PostHog (EU), our analytics tool, which keeps events for up to 7 years. Your starting town is also sent to Photon (komoot, OpenStreetMap data) to find it on the map.

Your conversation itself is handled by your assistant's provider under its own privacy policy. You can disconnect the app at any time in your assistant; no account is needed. More: mralps.com/ai.

Security

We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational measures to protect your data, including secure transmission over HTTPS and access controls appropriate for the services we provide.

Third-party services

MR. ALPS relies on third-party services to operate. Each has its own terms and privacy policy, and each may receive technical information such as your IP address when it serves a request for you. The main ones are:

  • PostHog, for product analytics and session replay. Our PostHog instance is hosted in the European Union
  • Google, for Google Tag Manager, Google Analytics, Google Ads measurement and remarketing, and web fonts
  • Supabase, which hosts our database, authentication and backend functions
  • Mapbox, which serves map imagery, and webcam and imagery providers whose live pictures we display
  • Strava, if you choose to connect your account

Strava may collect usage and telemetry information related to API access and authentication as part of operating the Strava platform and developer program.

YouTube live webcams

Some destination pages show live webcam streams hosted on YouTube. To find and display them, MR. ALPS uses YouTube API Services. By using these features you agree to be bound by the YouTube Terms of Service, and Google's handling of your data is described in the Google Privacy Policy.

  • We do not ask you to sign in to YouTube and we do not access, collect or store any data from your Google or YouTube account.
  • The only YouTube data we store is public information about the streams themselves (video id, title, channel name), refreshed or deleted at least every 30 days. Streams that are no longer live are removed.
  • The player on our pages is the official YouTube embedded player. When you play a stream, YouTube may set cookies and receive technical information such as your IP address, as described in the Google Privacy Policy. Nothing plays until you tap the play button.
  • You can manage Google's use of your data through the Google security settings page.

International transfers

MR. ALPS is operated from Switzerland and our analytics data is held in the European Union. Some of the providers listed above operate outside Switzerland and the European Economic Area, which means your data may be processed in other countries. Where that happens, we rely on the safeguards those providers put in place, such as standard contractual clauses.

Your rights

Depending on your location, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or request a copy of your personal data. You may also withdraw consent for analytics and advertising at any time as described above, and withdraw consent for Strava access by disconnecting your account.
